Mammoth Walkway at Sunrise
This whole area is buried under about a foot of snow now after the storm last weekend. Thought I’d share this shot of the walkways at Mammoth during sunrise on November 11th. These walkways can be a real hassle when trying to find a good angle to frame a shot. The ground is so hot [...]
Sunrise at Mammoth Hot Springs
On the epic date of 11/11/11 I woke up wicked early and drove down to Yellowstone to attempt to shoot the sunrise at Mammoth Hot Springs. I was a little late because of a slow rancher, but still caught some cool light. This whole area has tons of potential for sunrises as the dead calm [...]
Early Fall in Grand Teton National Park
On the 30th I finally drove down to Grand Teton National Park. Although Grand Teton is directly to the south of Yellowstone, it’s totally different. I can’t decide which of the two parks I enjoy more. They’re both quite different. It’s nice to be able to reach both of them easily in a day. I [...]
Grand Prismatic Spring & New Camera

I finally got the shot of the Grand Prismatic Spring that I’ve been looking to get for a couple of months. Walking along the bike path from the Fairy Falls trailhead, I followed a worn path up a steep hillside into a ridge overlooking the Midway Geyser Basin. The view was tremendous and I took [...]
Western Yellowstone
I’m going to try and make a trip down to Yellowstone National Park a weekly event. This past Friday I drove back to Gardiner and headed west from Mammoth towards Old Faithful. This section of park road that runs from Mammoth towards Old Faithful is, so far, my favorite stretch in the park. It starts with the [...]
The Lamar Valley

Last Saturday I drove down into Yellowstone National Park and out into the Lamar Valley looking for some wildlife. Along the way I stopped at Tower Fall and the Petrified Tree. I saw a ton of buffalo and some elk on the lawn in Mammoth. Hopefully as fall progresses and it gets colder more of [...]
Driving from Montana to Massachusetts

I study at Montana State University in Bozeman, MT and summer on Cape Cod. This means that I’m lucky enough to get to drive across the country twice per year. Last spring, starting in mid-May I left Bozeman and drove for seven days back to the Cape. I always try and stop and see National [...]
Yellowstone Last November

I took the photos that I shot last November in northern Yellowstone and reworked them in Lightroom. I have some refreshes of previous photos, and some new ones that I somehow missed when I originally took the pictures. This picture is a rework of a very similar image I took in November. The trees and [...]
Mammoth Hot Springs

Another shot from last November in Yellowstone, this time of the actual springs themselves. I personally think Mammoth Hot Springs is almost better in winter, as the contrast between the snowy landscape and the incredibly hot spring water is really striking.
Elk at Mammoth Hot Springs

A small herd of elk on top of a hillside at Mammoth Hot Springs, Yellowstone National Park last November.

Yellowstone National Park

My father and I spent the weekend of November 14-16 at Yellowstone National Park. During the winter (pretty much after late October) the only entrance to the park that is open is the Northern entrance in Gardiner, MT. All the roads in the park are closed, except for the road that runs from Mammoth Hot [...]
